Volunteers Week is an opportunity to celebrate volunteers and inspire others. Our volunteers are a valued and integral part of our team, and we would like to thank all our volunteers for their contribution!
This Volunteers Week (3 to 9 June 2024, the 40th anniversary) we wanted to share Jill’s volunteering story with us at VOCAL.
Jill is a carer who volunteers in our Edinburgh Carers’ Hub. She is often the first point of contact for our carers, and if you visit us, you might see her friendly face!
Jill decided to start volunteering with VOCAL as she wanted to give something back. She said:
“I decided to volunteer with VOCAL as they have been invaluable to me as an unpaid carer over the years, everything from benefits advice to helping me to take a break from my caring role. I would have struggled without their support so I decided to give something back. My caring role and my own health issues can make work difficult but I know at VOCAL they will always be flexible as they understand what it means to be an unpaid carer.
“I really enjoy the volunteering experience. It is nice to feel part of something. There is something particularly rewarding in registering a carer for the first time and knowing that they will get the support that they need.”
