Taking a break

Our Wee Breaks service helps you get a break from caring, in whatever way works for you.

Funding

We have two short breaks funds you can apply for:

  • Wee Breaks Fund: For carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian
  • Midlothian Carer Assistance Fund: For carers in Midlothian only

Please note, completing an application does not guarantee you will receive the funding. When you apply, we also consider your current caring responsibilities and financial circumstances, and any previous applications you have submitted or funding you have received.

Respitality

Our Respitality (respite and hospitality) programme connects carers with free experiences in the hospitality and leisure sectors. From cafe and restaurant vouchers to family activities and nights away, there are a variety of opportunities available to help you take a break.

VOCAL holiday homes

We have a cottage called Hawthorn Brae in Blair Atholl, and two holiday homes in Seton Sands holiday village. These properties provide much needed opportunities for you to rest and recharge, and you can choose whether you bring the person you care for on your break.

Monthly advice sessions

We run monthly short breaks surgeries, over the phone or in person at our Edinburgh or Midlothian carer centres. These are one-to-one sessions where our Carer Support Practitioners who specialise in short breaks can give you personalised advice.
