Employer training

We provide a range of training sessions where employers can learn how to identify and support carers in their workplace.

Each session lasts around one hour. This can also be adjusted to meet your organisation’s needs.

Our ‘Identifying and Supporting Carers in the Workplace’ session aims to make carers more visible in the workplace and helps managers reflect on the hidden impacts of caring. Managers can learn how to support team members who care for someone alongside work. 

This session will explore: 

  • How employers can support working carers and the associated business benefits 
  • How to identify unpaid carers in the workplace 
  • The impact of caring and how this can affect carers at work 

The Caring Conversations session aims to help staff and line managers feel more confident in initiating supportive conversations around caring. We also share strategies for effective and empathetic discussions. 

This session explores: 

  • Key tips for creating a carer-friendly work environment 
  • Practical tips to support positive conversations around caring 
  • How to build and establish rapport online, including active listening and best practices 

This session aims to help line managers identify the key signs that colleagues and team members may be struggling to balance the demands of working and caring for someone. 

This session will explore: 

  • Top tips to support team members and the wider organisation 
  • How to identify carers in the workplace and spot the signs of carers who may be struggling 
  • Tools to give managers the confidence to talk to team members about balancing caring and employment 

As a leading Scottish carers centre, we provide training sessions for employers in Edinburgh and Midlothian across the public, private and third sectors. We aim to improve staff skills and knowledge, to identify, support and engage carers in the workplace. 

Our training sessions focus on: 

  • Building employers’ confidence 
  • Providing practical tips and techniques for line managers 
  • Identifying and supporting carers in employment
