12 Dips of Christmas fundraising challenge

Take the plunge for a cause with The 12 Dips of Christmas; a challenge to complete twelve cold water swims over the festive season. Whether you’re a seasoned dipper or a curious first-timer, this is your chance to embrace the chill and raise funds for VOCAL.

Participants can also join up to four guided sessions led by The Cold Water Therapist (Jenny Favell), offering safety tips and the chance to meet others who are taking part.

Studies have shown that cold water immersion can boost mental clarity, reduce stress and inflammation, and elevate mood, making it the perfect antidote to festive overwhelm.

Brave the cold, and get chilly for charity this Christmas!

How do I take part?

If you’re interested in taking part in the challenge, contact Andrew (Partnership and Business Manager), at to register your interest. Please get in touch by 17 of November if you are interested – places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Dips can constitute wild-swimming, or a cold bath or shower at home.

Most people can take part, but we recommend that you get a medical check-up from your doctor before starting cold water exposure.

When does the challenge start and finish?

The challenge will begin on 23 November. Those who wish to can attend a group dip and initial safety talk with Jenny at Avon Lagoon in Linlithgow at 9am on 23 November. There will be an online safety course available for anyone who doesn’t wish to attend the group session.

There will be other guided group dips held on 7, 14, and 21 December at the same location (subject to availability). These are optional to attend.
