Carer advice surgeries

Carers have so many things to think about – why not book an appointment at VOCAL’s free carer advice surgeries and let a specialist advisor help you?

VOCAL runs the following free regular advice surgeries for carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian:

The following surgeries are available at VOCAL Edinburgh carer centre:

  • Power of Attorney
A Power of Attorney is a written authorization to represent or act on another’s behalf. At this surgery people with support needs and their carers can create Power of Attorney documentation replacing the need to visit a solicitor. Power of Attorney is important for all of us but might be particularly useful if someone has a progressive condition.
Read more about Power of Attorney.
  • Legal Surgeries
Many carers are concerned about the future, especially the financial security of a loved one. Working in partnership with a solicitor, VOCAL is offering free 30 minute consultations, for information and advice about key issues such as Wills, Trusts and Guardianship. These issues are important for everyone, but might be of particular interest for parent carers, and for people caring for someone with confusion or memory problems.
    Read more about legal matters.
  • Long term care
Many carers are concerned about paying for care home fees, how much they will have to pay, and what happens to property. A Chartered Financial Advisor can explore options with carers. This surgery would be of most benefit to carers where the move to long term care will take place in the next 6 months.
Read more about planning for Long Term Care.
  • Welfare rights & benefits
Are you or the person you care for getting the benefits you are entitled to? Book an appointment with one of our advisors for a ‘benefits check’, information or support completing benefit applications.
