What happens when I make a referral?

What happens when I am referred to VOCAL?

When a referral is made to VOCAL we gather some personal details which we use to tailor the information we send to individual caring situations. Please see VOCAL's privacy statement about what we do with this information.

All carers who are referred to VOCAL recieve a Carer Information Pack which contains a number of factsheets with useful information for carers, VOCAL service leaflets and a list of upcoming carer training courses.

Sometimes carers request a telephone call or call back, in which case a member of VOCAL's team will call you back.

You may not have a specific enquiry or need for support straight away, but like the reassurance of knowing where to go for support, and to keep up to date with news, information and any changes to benefits and legislation affecting carers in Scotland. We will post a copy of Carers News to you three times a year, as well as information on relevant training and events.

Who can make a referral?

  • As a carer you can self-refer, meaning you can contact VOCAL directly
  • If you are a professional working with a carer you can refer them to VOCAL with their permission
  • If you are a partner, friend or family member you can also refer a carer to VOCAL
