Running throughout the Autumn, the programme consists of a range of free services to support carer with employment related issues

Volunteering Options
Wednesday 22 September, 10am – 12.30pm at VOCAL
Join us to find out more about volunteering and its benefits. Volunteering can be a great first step to employment it can also help you, make friends, providing respite, develop new skills, increase your confidence and reduce isolation. Download the seminar lealfet.
Career planning
Wednesday 29 September, 10am – 12.30pm at VOCAL
A short seminar for carers who are considering returning to work now or in the future. A careers advisor will provide information and advice about all aspects of career planning and job searching. Download the seminar lealfet.
Working and caring – Your Rights
Thursday, 30 September, 6pm - 9pm at VOCAL
This seminar will cover a range of topics including, flexible working,
rights to time off, the rights of discrimination legislation. Information and advice will be led by an employment specialist. Download the seminar lealfet.
Explore your transferable skills
Wednesday 6 October, 10am – 12.30pm at VOCAL
Many carers feel de-skilled by their caring role, but as a carer you will have tried new things, learnt a great deal and developed new skills, all of which would be valuable in other parts of your life and to employers. This seminar will help you to identify and explore all the skills you can add to your C.V. Download the seminar lealfet.
Working and the benefits system
Wednesday 13 October, 10am – 12.30pm at VOCAL
It can be hard to know how your finances will be affected by starting work. This seminar will give information and advice around, Carers Allowance, Income Support, Tax Credits, Council Tax and Housing Benefits. Download the seminar lealfet.
Carer’s Assessments and other support
Wednesday 20 October, 10am – 1pm or 6pm - 9pm at VOCAL
On this seminar find out more about carers assessment and how to access support. There will be a chance to complete a carers self assessment at the seminar as well as an opportunity to explore other forms of support. Download the seminar lealfet.
Has the person you care for fallen?
Wednesdays, 1st and 8th September, 10am - 12.30pm at VOCAL
Does the person you care for have mobility problems? Find out more about falls prevention and what to do if someone does falls. The sessions will address key elements of falls prevention such as common causes of falls, equipment and aids to help with mobility and falls prevention. The second session looks at how to assist someone up from the fall and who to contact if you need assistance. Download a course leaflet.
Foot Care Seminar
Wednesday, 15 September, 10.30am - 12.00pm at VOCAL
Do you help someone with foot care? Do you do things like wash someone else’s feet or cut their toenails? At this seminar someone from the Podiatry Team talks about how you can help someone else to have healthy feet, learn more about techniques to make things easier for you. Download a seminar leaflet.
Understanding Dementia
Six week course, starting Wednesday 3 November at Orchard Day Service, Royal Victoria Hospital, 2pm – 3.30pm
The focus of the course is to inform families, friends and carers of people with dementia about the illness, symptoms and treatments. Download a course leaflet.
