Money matters when you care

Money matters when you care, and when times are hard, carers are often hit hardest!

Earlier this year, VOCAL invited several Edinburgh organisations to an 'economic carer summit'. All share a commitment to improving the 'economic wellbeing' of carers and are featured in a special 'Money Matters' issue of Carers News. The issue also contains a message from Sheila Gilmore MP, and links to more information on employment, energy and funding for carers.

VOCAL is committed to improving our partnership work and outreach for carers, and will strengthen the coordination of our work in Edinburgh.

We know that carers are hit hard by the economic situation because they told us so. In a survey of 4,250 carers in 2011, 74% who responded said improving their income was an issue; for 65% of respondents it was planning financially for the future; for 36% managing or reducing personal debt; and for 63% paying or planning for long term care.
