Celebrating carer support in Edinburgh on 17th June
A free one day conference, run by Edinburgh Community Health Partnership in partnership with OPM, will take place on Friday 17th June, at the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, Edinburgh.
The event is aimed at carers, and those who work with them, and will feature a wide range of information about support available to carers in Edinburgh, offering ‘tasters’ of different services to promote carer health and wellbeing.
The event will highlight existing work within Edinburgh to support carers, and will outline how the NHS Lothian Carer Information Strategy 2008-2011 has been taken forward.
Carers and professionals will also have the opportunity to share their views on these developments and what support for carers they would like to see in the future.
The keynote speaker for the event is Dame Philippa Russell, Chair of Standing Commission on Carers, Department of Health.
The flexible programme will include:
- Various arts and crafts workshops for carers
- Free alternative therapy ‘taster’ sessions
- Care for Carers – a local carer organisation - open day
- Information stalls from a variety of local carer and other health and care services in Edinburgh
- ‘Showcase’ examples of local carer support services
- Presentations and discussion about new developments
- Registration for the event will take place from 9.15am with the conference starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm.
An option to attend for a half day is also available. Refreshments including lunch will be provided.
Who should attend?
The conference is mainly for young and adult carers, but some places will be allocated to professionals. It is for people interested in finding out more about what support is available for carers in Edinburgh. If you give unpaid emotional, social or practical help to a person who requires assistance in their day to day life due to illness, disability, mental health problems or addiction then this conference is for you.
