Carers Rights Day 2010 - 'Caring and Equality'

This year Carers Rights Day takes place on Friday 3rd December. The theme for 2010 is 'Caring and Equality' with a focus on carers rights and the new Equalities Act which came into force in October. In Scotland there will also be a focus on the new carers strategy 'Caring Together' where for the first time carers are being recognised as equal partners in care.

Carers and the new Equality Act
Implementation of the new Equality Act began on 1 October 2010 and brought with it new legislation to protect carers from direct discrimination and harassment because of their caring responsibilities. The Government Equalities Office (GEO) produced a series of guides including 'Equality Act 2010: What do I need to know as a carer?'.

There are also a number of useful summary guides for the general public, employers and voluntary sector at the Equalities website.

  • a regular break
  • a life outside caring
