"A Scotland Fit for Carers" - Election Hustings 2011

VOCAL, in partnership with the Coalition of Carers in Scotland, will host a high profile election hustings on Monday 21 March 2011 at the Roxburghe Hotel in Edinburgh. The event provides an opportunity for carers to ask questions of MSPs prior to the Scottish Parliament elections in May.


The ‘Question Time’ election debate will be chaired by Prof. George L. Irving CBE with leading politicians from Scotland’s main political parties including:

  • Shona Robison MSP, Minister for Public Health, Scottish National Party
  • Richard Simpson MSP, Deputy Party Spokesperson on Health, Scottish Labour Party
  • Robert Brown MSP, Spokesperson on Justice, Scottish Liberal Democrat Party
  • Mary Scanlon MSP, Spokesperson on Health, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Patrick Harvie MSP, Co-Convenor, Scottish Green Party


The event will begin at 11.30am with light refreshments, followed by the debate at 12 noon. A light lunch will follow at 1.30pm. Invitations are now available to download (see far right), or by email (centre@vocal.org.uk) or telephone (0131 622 6666).

Carers are equal partners in the planning and delivery of care and support. There is a strong case based on human rights, economic, efficiency and quality of care grounds for supporting carers. Without the valuable contribution of Scotland’s carers, the health and social care system would not be sustained.
